Privacy Policy — Monthly Finance
This policy describes how the Monthly Finance mobile app handles information. It matches how the app works today. It is not legal advice.
Short summary
Monthly Finance never logs into your bank and never asks for bank passwords. You import statement PDFs; parsing runs on your phone. We don’t run a Monthly Finance server that stores your transactions, and we don’t sell your data. Optional Google Drive, Map, and Assistant are opt-in and disclosed.
Who we are
Monthly Finance is a personal finance app that helps you understand cash flow from statement and paystub PDFs you already have. The developer does not operate a Monthly Finance cloud account that stores your banking PDFs or transaction database for you.
What the app does on your device
When you import PDFs, the app processes them on your device and may extract:
- Transaction dates, amounts, and merchant descriptions
- Pay period, gross pay, net pay, and deduction labels from paystubs
- Bank or card issuer name when printed on the statement
- Partial account identifiers (for example, last 4 digits) if present in the PDF
By default, data stays in local storage on your phone (including original PDFs and your categorized transactions), unless you turn on an optional feature below.
What we do not do
- Log into your bank or ask for bank passwords
- Use Plaid or other bank APIs / bank credential brokers
- Operate a Monthly Finance backend that holds your PDFs or transactions
- Sell your personal or financial data
- Require Google or cloud access for the core loop: import → review → cash-flow views
Optional features (only if you turn them on)
Google Drive backup / sync
If you connect Google Drive, the app uses Google OAuth so you can authorize access. Parsed data and app state (for example CSVs and settings used for sync) are written to your Google Drive folder. Those files are in your Google account. Today they are not end-to-end encrypted by Monthly Finance (they are readable in Drive like ordinary files). Google’s handling of Drive data is governed by Google’s policies.
You can use the app without connecting Drive.
Map
If you use Map features that look up places, the device may contact network geocoding and map tile services (for example OpenStreetMap-related services such as Nominatim). That can send place-related queries over the network. Map use is optional / opt-in as presented in the app.
Assistant (on-device model)
On supported Android builds, Assistant is off by default. If you enable it, the app may download a large on-device model (about 4.9 GB, Google's Gemma 3n) and run inference on the device. The file is downloaded from our Cloudflare R2 storage; like any download, Cloudflare receives your IP address and standard request details. No financial data is sent. Your questions and answers stay on the device. Answers about your money are based on your imported local data. This is not financial advice.
Bug reports
If you send a bug report (for example via email or the system share sheet), whatever you attach—such as a screenshot or description—leaves the device through your chosen channel. Don’t include information you don’t want to send.
Dashboard share
If you use share/dashboard features, the app is designed so shared summaries can include category-level totals and trends, and exclude individual transactions, PDFs, and account numbers—as described in-app. Always review what you share before sending.
Permissions (Android)
Depending on version and features, the app may request:
- Internet — optional Drive, Map, model download, and similar
- Camera — optional features such as scanning a link/QR where offered; not required for core PDF import from files
Children
Monthly Finance is intended for users 18 years of age and older. It is not directed at children and is not designed for the Google Play Designed for Families program.
Data retention and deletion
- On device: Uninstalling the app or clearing app storage removes the local copy.
- Google Drive: If you used Drive sync, files remain in your Drive until you delete them.
- We do not maintain a separate Monthly Finance server copy of your transaction database to delete on request, because we do not host that database.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
Tip for Google Sites: open this file in Chrome → Select All (⌘A) → Copy (⌘C) → paste into your Site. Headings should come through as formatted text. Or Publish this file on any https host and use that URL in Play Console.
